The Keyword Density Checklist: What to Verify Before You Publish

The Keyword Density Checklist: What to Verify Before You Publish

Run through this before you consider keyword density actually done:

1. Use density as a sanity check, not a target — if your primary keyword doesn't appear naturally at all, that's worth noticing; forcing it to hit 3% is not.
2. Look at related terms and synonyms alongside the exact keyword — comprehensive topic coverage matters more than exact-phrase repetition.
3. Read the page out loud after checking density — if repetition sounds awkward to a human, it will read as over-optimized to a search engine too.
4. Compare density against top-ranking competitors for calibration, not as a formula to copy exactly.
5. Double-check this after any site migration or major redesign, not just at launch.

None of these individually take long. The value is in doing all of them, every time, instead of remembering most of them most of the time.

Pair this with the robots.txt file checklist if you're doing a fuller pre-launch pass.

Keyword Density Checker runs through most of this automatically.
